Alex Lehnert is an American meteorologist and morning weather anchor for CBS News Colorado. A native of Greeley, Colorado, Alex is thrilled to be forecasting once again in her home state and sharing her passion for weather with viewers in the First Alert Weather Center.
“This Colorado girl is finally back!” she said on her first day at CBS News Colorado in 2023.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado, Alex began her broadcasting career in Casper, Wyoming (KTWO-TV), where she gained experience in nearly every newsroom role — reporter, anchor, producer, editor, and weather forecaster.
From Wyoming, she headed west to Fresno, California (KMPH-TV), where she worked as a reporter and weather forecaster before moving north to Minneapolis, Minnesota, joining KMSP-TV as a weekend meteorologist. During her five years in Minnesota, Alex also earned her Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University.
Minnesota became a special place for Alex — it’s where she met her husband, welcomed her first son, and developed a love for spending time on the water in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”
When she’s not forecasting, Alex enjoys exploring Colorado with her family, skiing during the winter months, and playing pickleball — a family favorite that often turns into friendly (but competitive) holiday tournaments.
