John Dean Biography
John Dean (born on October 14, 1938) is an American attorney notable for serving as White House Counsel for U.S. President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. He gained prominence for his involvement in the cover-up of the Watergate scandal and his subsequent testimony before Congress as a key witness.
As part of a plea deal, Dean pleaded guilty to a single felony, which led to a reduced sentence served at Fort Holabird outside Baltimore, Maryland. Following his plea, he faced disbarment.
Following the Watergate hearings, Dean authored a series of books recounting his experiences and embarked on a nationwide lecture tour. He later transitioned into a career as a commentator on contemporary politics, an author of books, and a columnist for FindLaw’s Writ.
Notably, Dean’s political affiliations underwent a transformation over the years. Initially aligned with Goldwater’s conservatism, he later became a vocal critic of the Republican Party. He expressed strong reservations about the party’s support for Presidents George W.
