On August 30, 2023, Ruby Franke was arrested in Washington County, Utah, and charged with six counts of aggravated child abuse under Utah law. She later pleaded guilty to four of these counts. On February 20, 2024, she was sentenced to a maximum of 60 years in prison.

Kevin, an American civil and environmental engineer, presently serves as an assistant professor at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Before assuming his role as an assistant professor, Franke held positions as a geotechnical engineering consultant from 2006 to 2012.
During this time, he contributed his expertise to notable projects, including the ‘I-15 CORE’ project in Utah County and the ‘Kennecott Utah Copper tailings project in Salt Lake County. Franke commenced his professional journey in 2006 as a geotechnical professional at Kleinfelder, Inc. During his tenure at Kleinfelder, he conducted various geotechnical analyses, such as liquefaction and settlement analysis.
Concurrently, Franke pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at Brigham Young University, which he obtained in 2011.
