Leah Campos Schandlbauer (born in December 1972) is an American diplomat and former intelligence officer serving as the 40th U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic since 2025.
A member of the Republican Party, she previously served as a senior adviser on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere from 2015 to 2019, and worked in the Central Intelligence Agency from 2001 to 2012. Leah worked for the SAS Institute from 2019 to 2025.

Leah Campos Schandlbauer Ambassador
Leah Campos Schandlbauer served as a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer from 2001 to 2012. In 2012, she ran for the Republican nomination in Arizona’s 9th congressional district. She left the CIA six months before launching her campaign, motivated in part by her experiences working in Western Europe and Latin America.
Campos was one of seven candidates in the Republican primary held on August 28, 2012. She was among the lower-polling candidates and did not win the nomination. Former Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker won the Republican primary and advanced to the general election.
From February 2013 to September 2014, Campos served as an advisor to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. She became the subcommittee’s staff director in September 2014, serving under Representative Matt Salmon until January 2015. She then worked as a senior adviser to the House Foreign Affairs Committee under Representative Ed Royce from January 2015 to January 2019.
In January 2019, Campos joined SAS Institute as a senior strategic adviser, focusing on Latin America, Southern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In December 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced Campos as his nominee for U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic. She was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025, and presented her credentials to Dominican President Luis Abinader on November 19, 2025.
