Russell Franke Injuries/ Escape
The incident involving Russell Franke’s injuries and escape is deeply troubling. On August 30 of last year, Russell, then 12 years old, managed to escape through a window at Hildebrandt’s residence in the southern Utah city of Ivins.
He sought help from a neighbor, appearing thin and covered in wounds, with duct tape around his ankles and wrists. Russell informed investigators that Hildebrandt had restrained him with ropes and treated his injuries using cayenne pepper and honey. Subsequently, both women involved were detained and charged with six counts of aggravated abuse.
Franke pleaded guilty to four of the six charges during a hearing on December 18. In contrast, Hildebrandt had two of her six charges dropped as part of the plea agreement. Sadly, Russell was not the sole victim of abuse. Hildebrandt confessed in court to subjecting Franke’s youngest daughter, a 9-year-old, to distressing acts, including jumping into a cactus multiple times and running barefoot on dirt roads until her feet blistered.
Following their arrest, both Russell and the young girl were promptly taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and care. This harrowing incident underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that perpetrators of abuse are held accountable for their actions.
