Butler was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram in December 2018. She announced this in September 2019, via statement and in a pre-recorded segment. She immediately began her treatment for breast cancer, since it was detected earlier.

The meteorologist revealed that she was cancer-free and doing very well with the strength and support of her family. Butler emphasized the importance of mammogram screenings which when detected early, it is easily treated.
