Andraya Carter’s basketball journey began at Buford High School in Georgia, where she played under the guidance of the renowned coach Gene Durden. Notably, Coach Durden also taught her multimedia presentations class.
During her high school tenure, she played an instrumental role in securing three consecutive Class 2A state championships for the Lady Wolves (2009–2011), boasting an average of 13 points per game across these seasons. Unfortunately, she was unable to participate in her senior season due to injuries.
Despite this setback, her outstanding skills led to her being ranked as the No. 21 prospect nationally by espnW.com for the class of 2012. Accepting a scholarship offer, she joined the University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Team, a decision driven by her admiration for the Lady Vols and Coach Pat Summitt. She became one of the last players to sign with Summitt.
Carter began her college career by participating in five games during the 2012–13 season before a redshirt due to injury. Her notable performance led to her inclusion in the SEC All-Freshmen Team for the 2013–14 season. Furthermore, she showcased her defensive prowess by leading the conference in steals with 80 during the 2014–15 season.
Regrettably, persistent injuries compelled her to retire after her redshirt junior season in 2015–16, thereby dashing her aspirations of playing in the WNBA. Throughout her time with the Volunteers, Carter maintained an average of 6.4 points per game and accumulated 199 steals, leaving a lasting mark on her Vol Career.
