Claudine Gay (born on August 4, 1970) is an American political scientist and academic administrator. She served as the 30th president of Harvard University, assuming office in 2023 and making history as the first black president of Harvard. In addition to her role as president, Gay holds the Wilbur A. Cowett Professorship in Government and African and African-American Studies at Harvard, focusing her research on American political behavior, including voter turnout, and the politics of race and identity.
Before her presidency, Claudine Gay served as the Dean of Social Studies and later as the Edgerley Family Dean of the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences. However, in the aftermath of the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, allegations surfaced against Claudine Gay regarding her response to antisemitism on campus and her handling of condemning the attacks.
