Diane Ako Biography
Diane Ako (born in 1972) is an American anchor and reporter currently working for KITV4 as the weekend evening and weekday reporter. She also hosts the “Aging Well” series, which airs every Tuesday at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. Diane joined KITV4 in March 2018, following her previous role as a morning anchor at KHON2 News.
Ako is a proud alumna of The Kamehameha Schools. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her career has taken her across the country, with experience working in Pennsylvania, California, and New Mexico.
Throughout her journalism career, Diane has earned four Emmy nominations from the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and ten first-place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists Hawai‘i Chapter.
Beyond the newsroom, Diane is deeply involved in her community. She serves as a board member of the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, one of the nation’s longest-running LGBTQ+ film festivals. Additionally, she fulfills a spiritual role as a Shinto shrine maiden at the Daijingū Temple of Hawaii.
