She graduated with honors from Eau Claire High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Student Council, a varsity cheerleader, and was crowned Miss Shamrock 1978.
Janice attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she majored in meteorology. During her time at FSU, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
