Kamiyah Mobley was born on July 10, 1998, to 16-year-old Shanara “Starr” Mobley at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Approximately eight hours after her birth, she was abducted by a woman posing as a nurse. The woman, reportedly dressed in hospital attire, entered the room, interacted with Shanara, and later left carrying the newborn. Hospital employees initially believed the woman was a member of the Mobley family. After the disappearance, Shanara was interviewed by investigators and pleaded for the safe return of her daughter.
The abductor was initially described as a woman believed to be between 25 and 35 years old. Witness descriptions suggested that she may have worn glasses and a wig, along with a floral blue smock and green scrub pants. Despite an extensive investigation, the case remained unsolved for nearly 18 years.
In January 2017, authorities identified Gloria Williams as the woman responsible for the abduction. Williams had taken Kamiyah from the hospital and raised her in South Carolina under the name Alexis Manigo.
