Chip Reid, an esteemed American broadcast journalist, was born in Wilmington, Delaware, to Charles H. Reid Sr. and Norma Reid. He currently resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Nina Black. Reid’s educational journey began at Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware.
He later pursued his undergraduate studies at Vassar College, a prestigious liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in psychology in 1977. Continuing his academic pursuits, Reid attended Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, graduating in 1982 with a Master of Public Affairs degree.
He furthered his education by earning a law degree from Columbia Law School. In recognition of his achievements, Reid delivered the commencement address to the Vassar College Class of 2011. His career in journalism spans several notable roles and experiences.
From 1996 to 2000, Reid was based in Washington, D.C. for NBC News, covering significant Beltway stories including Al Gore’s 2000 Presidential campaign, voting irregularities in the 2000 Presidential election, and the impeachment process of President Clinton.
In 2001, Reid transitioned to the Los Angeles base of NBC, where he spent seven weeks embedded with a U.S. Marines lead unit during the initial invasion of U.S. troops from Kuwait to Baghdad. Continuing his career with NBC News, Reid began covering the Senate and the House of Representatives in the fall of 2004. He also served as a political coverage anchor for MSNBC and reported for all major NBC News broadcasts. Reid joined CBS News in 2007 as Capitol Hill Correspondent, providing extensive coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign and traveling with Sen. John McCain during much of the campaign.
