Barbara graduated from New Hampton High School in 1950 and initially worked as a secretary at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa.
On August 22, 1954, Barbara married Charles E. (Chuck) Grassley at The Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. The couple is blessed with five children: Lee, Wendy, Robin, Michele, and Jay. They are also proud grandparents to nine grandchildren and great-grandparents to eight.
